waiting for chicks

We have a box, wood shavings and food for them. I cleaned and disinfected the watering tower and food trough. Now we wait (not so patiently) for the call from Hatfield Feed & Seed. We can't wait to go collect our Australorp and Silver Laced Wyandotte chicks. Two new ladies who will need two new names. We've never introduced new ladies to a flock. We have our original three of four. I am nervous about that eventuality when the time finally comes. We took away half of the ladies' roaming ground and planted it with cover crop. This way, when the new little ones are ready to go outside, there will be plenty of delicious and tender greens for them. But our current three decided they'd rather break into the forbidden patch and eat the seeds before they had a chance to grow. Surely there's a moral in there. Eating the seeds before they've sprouted. Counting your chickens before they've hatched. Something like that!
